Can a man stay true to his moral principles in difficult times?

The story is about two families and the hard 90s. Janelle and Murat are raising two children. Janelle works as a translator, but because of the crisis there are no work opportunities. Murat takes advantage of the moment and opens a stall and starts to make money. The money begins to deprave Murat and he leaves his wife for Gula.

To feed her children Janel finds a job as a nurse in the house of Professor Yerlan. Soon Yerlan, too, becomes unemployed. A mutual sympathy develops between the young people, but Yerlan transforms before his very eyes. From the businessman he turns into a leader of a criminal group.
